Argentine musician Carlos "Indio" Solari, former singer and songwriter of the legendary rock band Los Redonditos de Ricota, died on Friday (June 5) at the age of 77 after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's disease, local media reported.
A towering figure in Argentine rock over the past four decades, Solari led a mass following unmatched in the country, filling major stadiums despite his distant relationship with the media.
Founded in the late 1970s in the city of La Plata, Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, the band's full name, emerged from the underground culture of Buenos Aires to become a popular rock group known for classic sound and poetic lyrics laden with enigmatic ideological content.
The band shunned traditional media and Solari rarely gave interviews, shrouding the group in a mystique that drew hundreds of thousands to concerts promoted largely by word of mouth and alternative channels.
Solari made his last appearance singing in a pre-recorded video broadcast at the end of 2025 during a concert by his current rock band, Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado.
