Last Christmas by Wham! (1984)

Genre: Pop

After more than 40 years, in December 2025, this song reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Composed by the late George Michael, Last Christmas has been covered numerous times by artists like Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift.


All I Want for Christmas is You  by Mariah Carey (1994)

Genre: Pop/Soul

Co-written by Carey and Walter Afanasieff, the song has amassed more than $100 million in royalties as of 2025. It is the longest running number-one single in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart  at 21 weeks.


Christmas in Our Hearts by Jose Mari Chan (1990)

Genre: OPM

What Mariah Carey is to the US, Jose Mari Chan is to the Philippines. This beloved song ushers in the unofficial start of the Christmas season in the Philippines, or the so-called 'ber' months.  The song enjoys extended airplay in malls, offices  and on karaoke machines.


One More Sleep by Leona Lewis (2013)

Genre: Soul

This anthem by X Factor UK winner Lewis is the most streamed British song of the 21st century with 190 million streams.


Blue Christmas by Elvis Presley (1957)

Genre: Rock/Soul

Among the various versions of this Christmas classic, Elvis's rendition is probably the most popular. In his '68 Comeback Special, Blue Christmas has been praised as one of his best performances.


Grownup Christmas List by Monica (2011)

Genre: R&B

 Monica's soulful version has been featured in different Christmas compilation albums and was originally sung by one of its composers, superproducer David Foster and Natalie Cole.  


Pasko Na Sinta Ko by Gary Valenciano (1986)

Genre: OPM

This holiday ballad became very popular that it paved the way for other OPM artists to release Filipino Christmas songs in the mid-80s. The song has become synonymous with Valenciano and appears in his concert setlist often.


Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande (2013)

Grande's upbeat ditty, released 12 years ago,  was at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart just 3 days ago, on December 22, 2025.


Merry Christmas Darling by The Carpenters (1978 version)

Genre: Pop/Adult Contemporary

A favorite of Baby Boomers and Gen Xers, the  vocals of Karen Carpenter plus her crystal clear diction has endeared this holiday love song to younger generations.


Do They Know It's Christmas? by Band Aid (1984)

Genre: Pop

The biggest British acts of that time banded together to help alleviate hunger in Africa with this Christmas classic. Their humanitarian effort inspired others like USA for Africa, Live Aid, and Farm Aid, bringing activism back to mainstream music.


Give Love on Christmas Day by The Jackson 5 (1970)

Genre: R&B

A very young Michael Jackson sings lead in this Motown holiday classic. Written by the label's in-house writing-producing team, The Corporation, it was well received by critics and fans alike.


Kumukutikutitap by Joey Albert (1987)

Genre: OPM

National Artist Ryan Cayabyab wrote this ditty almost 40 years ago as a piece for choir competition. This joyful Christmas fixture has become such a holiday staple that even US Ambassador to the Philippines Marykay Carlson sang it a few weeks ago in a program.


Happy XMas (War is Over) by John Lennon and Yoko Ono (1971)

Genre: Pop

Lennon's protest song against the Vietnam War has been covered by different artists throughout the years, making it a Christmas standard. The song has appeared every now and then on the Billboard charts since its release in 1971.


White Christmas by Bing Crosby (1942)

Genre: Standard

Crosby performed this 1941 composition by Irving Berlin a year later, just as World War II was commencing. Originally written for the soundtrack of the movie The Inn, the ballad resonated with American GIs fighting abroad--deluging The Armed Forces Network with requests. The first few lines go, "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas just like the ones I used to know."


Let It Snow by Boyz 2 Men and Brian McKnight (1993)

Genre: R&B

Ebony Magazine named it one of the blackest Christmas songs ever at number six. The soulful collab also has a groove listeners can slow dance to. 


Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree by Brenda Lee (1958)

Genre: Rockabilly

Lee was only 13 years old when she recorded this rockabilly/holiday song in 1958. It had a second life when it was featured in the movie Home Alone in 1990.


Bibingka by Ben and Ben (2018)

Genre: OPM

Named after the popular holiday food, the band gives a fresh spin on FIlipino Christmas songs with its contemporary feel evident in its lyrics and melody.


This Gift by 98 Degrees (1999)

Genre: Soul

The  boy band puts some blue-eyed soul to this hidden gem of a song. 


A Nonsense Christmas by Sabrina Carpenter (2022)

Genre: Pop

Carpenter parodies her own hit song, Nonsense, to come up with a holiday version by altering the lyrics.

 

It's Christmas All Over the World by Sheena Easton (1985)

Genre: Pop

Easton's version  was the theme for the 1985 flick Santa Clause: The Movie. The R&B group New Edition also recorded a version of this song the same year.


Nakaraang Pasko by Kuh Ledesma (1987)

Genre: OPM

Ledesma, one of OPM's prime movers in the 70s, performs a heartfelt rendition of this holiday tune in the late 80s. This was later covered by other artists like Martin Nievera, Carol Banawa, and Ariel Rivera.


It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas by Michael Buble (2011)

Genre: Standard/Jazz

Since this song was written by Meredith Wilson in 1951, it has had many iterations, including Buble's 2011 take.  The Canadian, also known as the King of Holiday Music, has streamed 752 million times, including this song.


That's Christmas to Me by Pentatonix (2016)

Genre: Pop/A Cappella

The no-instrument, voice-only group Pentatonix's song was named by Billboard as  one of the 30 best Christmas songs of the 21st century.


Paglamig ng Hangin by Bukas Palad Music Ministry (1999)

Genre: OPM/ A Cappella

Bukas Palad Music Ministry has performed Catholic and Christmas songs for quite some time, with this a cappella piece as one of their standout pieces.


Silver Bells by Johnny Mathis  (1958)

Genre: Standard

The 90-year-old singer has had a large portfolio of work in his almost 70-year career, including a number of Christmas albums. Silver Bells has become one of his most memorable Christmas songs.


The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole (1961 version)

Genre: Standard/Jazz

The crooner's soothing voice lends a laid-back and relaxing tone to this golden oldy written by Mel Torme and Robert Wells. Nat King Cole's 1961 version, and not his 1946 and 1953 versions, was chosen for preservation by the Library of Congress.
