A screen grab from the featurette of "The Death of Robin Hood"
A featurette of “The Death of Robin Hood” starring Hugh Jackman was released by A24 on May 22, which included several scenes from the film and interviews with the director and Jackman himself.
Jackman said that this version of Robin Hood will make people take a second look at the legend. He noted that the narrative has shifted many times over the centuries, depending on the era.
“The Wolverine” actor gave high praises to director Michael Sarnoski, calling him one of the “greatest voices in film today.” He was impressed by Sarnoski’s confidence in storytelling, describing the film’s scale as “phenomenal, beautiful, and epic.”
Sarnoski, known for directing A Quiet Place: Day One, said this adaptation stands out from previous versions of Robin Hood. Rather than portraying the traditional heroic outlaw, the film presents a darker interpretation—Robin as a bloodthirsty, cutthroat figure shaped by a violent and unforgiving world where danger is ever-present.
He adds that the production aimed for a grounded, atmospheric tone by filming in old castles, churches, and mountains, emphasizing the connection between nature, spirituality, and the brutality of the medieval era.
Sarnoski also highlights Robin’s internal struggle with identity and transformation, stating, “how do we transition from one sense of ourselves to someone more than that?”
The story follows a battle-worn Robin Hood who is grappling with his violent past after a life of crime and murder. After a fight he thought would be his last, he is left gravely injured and eventually taken in by a mysterious woman who offers him a chance at redemption.
The official trailer dropped on January 6. The cast includes Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe.
"The Death of Robin Hood" is set to premiere in the United States on June 19, 2026, while a release date in the Philippines has not yet been confirmed.
