Marilyn Monroe, the platinum blonde film star who became one of Hollywood’s most enduring symbols of glamour, would have turned 100 on Monday (June 1).
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, Monroe rose from a childhood in foster homes to become one of the most recognizable figures in the world.
She is best known for the 1950s films “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” “How to Marry a Millionaire” and “The Seven Year Itch.”
Monroe’s life was marked by high-profile marriages, including to baseball legend Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller.
She died on August 5, 1962 at age 36.
