Filipino actress and former Miss World Megan Young revealed that she and her husband, actor Mikael Daez, almost broke up early in their relationship when she made him her entire world.
During the latest video podcast of Bianca Gonzalez’s advice platform “Paano Ba ‘To,” the beauty queen opened up about going through a difficult phase in their relationship, where she became so focused on Mikael that she started neglecting herself. “I loved Mikael so much that I made him my world,” she admitted.
She said Mikael eventually called her out, telling her he wasn’t comfortable with how her life had started revolving around him. The actor reminded her that he fell in love with her as an independent person with her own identity and passions, and that she should continue growing on her own instead of centering her life entirely on him.
Megan, 36, recalled him saying, “I am not your world, I’m a part of it.” She further shared that he told her, “If your schedule has to revolve around me, I don’t want that.”
Megan said this led to a “very intense conversation” during their third year as a couple, and they were close to breaking up because of the issue. It made her realize she had been losing herself in the relationship and forgetting her individuality.
She said it became a wake-up call that helped her understand she could still thrive on her own even while being in love. From then on, she made a conscious effort to focus on her own growth again, which eventually strengthened their relationship.
“So from then on, I really started doing my own thing and that's when we started really flourishing in our relationship,” she said.
This change helped their relationship become healthier and more balanced, moving past the “honeymoon phase” into a more mature and committed partnership where both of them could thrive individually while still being together.
Megan shared that they have always been serious about their relationship, choosing not to “play games” and treating it as a long-term commitment from the beginning.
The couple started dating in 2011 and were “secretly” engaged in 2014, with only their brothers aware at the time. They eventually got married in 2020 after years of dating. The couple welcomed their first child, named Leon, on May 20, 2025.
