New zombie film ‘Colony’ gets strong response at Cannes midnight screening

Korean director Yeon Sang-ho is returning to the zombie thriller genre with his upcoming film, “Colony” after the global success of his previous films, “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula.”
The film featured a powerhouse ensemble cast, including Jun Ji-hyun, Ji Chang-wook, Koo Kyo-hwan, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rok, and Go Soo.
Set amid a mysterious infection outbreak, Colony is a survival horror film centers on a group of survivors trapped inside a building as they battle in increasingly dangerous infected creatures.
Ahead of its release, the movie was invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 79th Cannes International Film Festival. Its world premiere took place at the Lumière Grand Theatre in France on May 15, attended by director Yeon and cast members Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-been, and Kim Shin-rok.
According to The Chosun Daily, more than 2,300 seats at the venue sold out ahead of the screening despite a delay of about an hour caused by the previous film.
During the premiere, the audience stayed highly engaged throughout the screening, with cheers and gasps heard across the theater. After the film ended, the viewers gave the cast and filmmakers a standing ovation.
Aside from Train to Busan and Peninsula, Yeon is also known for directing horror feature “Seoul Station,” “Parasyte: The Grey,” and “Hellbound.”
Colony is set to hit cinemas in South Korea on May 21, followed by its Philippine release on May 27.
