'Wicked: For Good' celebrated in New York with one-day exhibit ahead of its digital release

Fans step into the magical world of Wicked in New York, experiencing immersive exhibits and iconic film props to celebrate the digital release of Wicked: For Good.

The world of "Wicked" was recreated for one day in New York to celebrate the at-home release of "Wicked: For Good." Lucky "Wicked" fans and influencers from around the world were invited to a one-day exhibit that featured costumes and props from the film, multi-sensory spaces, and digital installations.

Among them were a floral room filled with flowers with the scent of roses piped throughout, a tornado, and Glinda's bubble room. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment created multiple photo and video backdrops to help visitors share their experiences and promote the release.

"Wicked: For Good" sees Grande and Erivo return as Glinda and Elphaba, the witches of Oz, for the conclusion of the film adaptation of the hit stage musical. The two films, both directed by Jon M. Chu, are based on Stephen Schwartz's musical of the same name, which itself is an adaptation of the 1995 book by Gregory Maguire, telling the story of the misunderstood, green-skinned Elphaba who goes on to become the Wicked Witch of the West from the classic children's novel "The Wizard of Oz."

The second half posted the third-best domestic opening weekend for a musical ever, behind Disney's 2019 photorealistic, computer-generated version of "The Lion King" and its 2017 remake of "Beauty and the Beast," according to Universal Pictures and Comscore's box office tallies.

Among the excited audience members was Louie Fevola. "I'm a gay man. You know, the feeling of being different, an outcast, it spoke to me very young. So watching this just felt very homely to me. It felt very comfortable. And I really resonated with the story, so I've always really loved it. And the music's amazing."

Beginning on December 31st, audiences will be able to rent or buy the film on digital platforms, which comes with new bonus features, a Sing-Along, and a 50-minute documentary of the making of the film.
