Snow fell overnight in upstate New York's Syracuse on Monday (December 29), as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning until New Year's Eve.
According to the NWS, a heavy lake effect is to be expected until Wednesday (December 31) morning, with total snowfall expected between 1 and 2 feet (30 to 60 cm) and winds as high as 50 mph (80 kph).
People were seen walking in the open as some cars plied the roads in and around downtown Syracuse.
Visibility will likely drop as whiteout conditions are expected to make travel treacherous "and potentially life-threatening", according to the NWS website.
