Brazil presidential hopeful Flavio Bolsonaro in Washington to seek meeting with Trump
Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has arrived in Washington seeking high-level meetings and a possible encounter with U.S. President Donald Trump ahead of Brazil’s 2026 election. The visit comes amid political controversy at home and a tightening race against incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Brazilian right-wing senator Flavio Bolsonaro,, the oldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro and a hopeful in Brazil's 2026 presidential election, arrived in Washington on Monday hoping to meet U.S. President Donald Trump in the coming days, according to two people familiar with the situation.
One of the sources declined to specify when the meeting might take place, while a second told Reuters, on condition of anonymity, that although the encounter is not guaranteed, it could happen very soon.
Paulo Figueiredo, a journalist and ally of Flavio Bolsonaro, said on his X account that the senator's campaign neither confirmed nor denied the meeting, adding only that he is in Washington for "high-level meetings."
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Reuters reported last week that the senator was seeking a meeting with Trump to help weather a political crisis that has dented his standing in polls against leftist incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva ahead of October's elections.
The crisis stems from the senator's admission that he requested money from a jailed banker, accused of fraud, to finance a film about his father, who was convicted of attempting to overturn Brazil's democratic order after losing his bid for reelection in 2022.
