Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday called on Senate officials and employees to remain focused on their responsibilities despite the political tensions, looming impeachment proceedings, and controversies surrounding the chamber.

“Let’s be the best version of ourselves in the next few days, in the next few weeks with the impeachment [proceedings]. That’s all I ask of you. From there, let’s evolve together,” he told Senate department heads and committee secretaries on May 14.

Cayetano acknowledged the difficult atmosphere confronting the institution, stressing that the Senate must continue functioning effectively despite intense public scrutiny and political pressure.

“We live in a world that you have to multitask. Nowadays, everything is instant. So we’re easily confused. It’s crisis after crisis,” Cayetano said.

“There are things beyond our control, but the preparation is there. We all try to give our best despite the circumstances,” he added.

The newly elected Senate President said both lawmakers and Senate employees should continue delivering results even as impeachment proceedings are expected to dominate much of the chamber’s agenda in the coming weeks.

He also underscored the importance of teamwork within the Senate bureaucracy, saying institutional work should move forward regardless of changes in leadership positions.

“[Let’s] work on things kahit sino’ng nakaupo sa Senate presidency or sa chairmanship. They will appreciate it,” he said.

Cayetano urged officials to prioritize long-term institutional goals over political divisions, emphasizing that trust and cooperation among colleagues would help the Senate manage the challenges ahead.

He likewise stressed the importance of preserving the chamber’s credibility amid political conflict and public criticism.

“Dignity is very important. That’s why what we’re fighting here is the dignity of the Senate. Kailangan natin mag-multitask. We all try to give our best despite the circumstances,” he said.

Cayetano also encouraged Senate officials to remain flexible as the institution faces increasing political and legislative pressure, while assuring employees that he would continue providing leadership during the challenges confronting the chamber.

“While I’m with you, I have to lead. And leadership matters,” he said.
