Detroit fell to 8-7 despite a strong passing performance from Jared Goff, who threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns on 34-of-54 passing. The game ended in dramatic fashion when Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was called for offensive pass interference on what would have been a game-winning touchdown as time expired. Officials conferred for several minutes before confirming the penalty, sealing the Steelers’ win.

However, the Steelers responded in the closing seconds of the half. Gainwell hauled in a high-arching pass near the Lions’ 15-yard line, regained his balance, and raced into the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown to tie the game at 10-10 at halftime.
