Donovan Mitchell scored nine of his 30 points in the fourth quarter, and James Harden added 28 points, lifting the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 115-105 victory over the Toronto Raptors in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first-round series on Monday night.
The Cavaliers’ win extended their dominance over Toronto in the playoffs, marking their 12th consecutive postseason victory over the Raptors, tying the NBA record for most consecutive wins against a single opponent. Cleveland also has active streaks of 12 straight wins over the Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons, matching a record set by the Los Angeles Lakers against the Seattle SuperSonics from 1980-1995.
Evan Mobley had a standout performance, contributing 25 points and eight rebounds, shooting 11-of-13 from the field. Mitchell also added seven rebounds and five assists to his tally. Harden, in addition to his 28 points, recorded five steals and four assists, moving into seventh place on the all-time assists list in the postseason with 1,139 career playoff assists. Jarrett Allen also made an impact with 10 points and three blocks, helping the Cavaliers maintain control throughout the game.
Toronto was led by Scottie Barnes, who scored a playoff career-high 26 points. RJ Barrett chipped in 22 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, while Collin Murray-Boyles added 17 points. Sandro Mamukelashvili contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, but the Raptors couldn’t overcome Cleveland’s offensive firepower. Toronto's starting center, Jakob Poeltl, played only the first quarter, finishing with just two points and did not return to the game.
Despite the win, Cleveland did not pull away until late in the game. With four minutes left in the contest, Mitchell hit a 3-pointer and followed it up with a fast-break layup off a Harden steal to extend Cleveland’s lead to 104-90. Earlier in the third quarter, Dean Wade made a 3-pointer to give the Cavaliers their largest lead at 71-55, but Toronto responded with a 22-13 run to get within seven points heading into the final period. Barnes scored eight points in the run, and Ja'Kobe Walter added six.
Cleveland held a 54-48 advantage at halftime, with Mitchell and Harden leading the scoring for the Cavaliers, combining for 31 points. Toronto kept it close thanks to strong performances from Barnes and Barrett, who scored 17 points between them in the second quarter.
The Cavaliers had already won Game 1, 126-113, and now lead the series 2-0. Game 3 will take place Thursday in Toronto.
