NBA: Giannis Antetokounmpo says he is 'committed to the Milwaukee Bucks'

Giannis Antetokounmpo is once again committed to the Milwaukee Bucks, at least for the time being.
"As of today, I'm committed to the Milwaukee Bucks," Antetokounmpo told ESPN in an interview that aired Sunday. "I'm committed to the people that I work with, my teammates, the coaching staff, Coach Doc [Rivers] and [general manager] Jon [Horst] in the front office. What I've said from the beginning of this year is that, out of my mouth and the way I've carried myself, you will never hear me say I don't want to be a Milwaukee Buck."
While Antetokounmpo has never outright said he wants to leave Milwaukee, he has left the door slightly open. Last month, he told The Athletic that he would never request a trade, but he used a colorful analogy to suggest his feelings about his basketball home could change.
"So just because I like my eggs scrambled today, I don't have the opportunity to eat my eggs sunny-side up tomorrow?" he said. "We're human, right? So it's the same thing in basketball."
According to ESPN, the Bucks had explored trade possibilities for Antetokounmpo ahead of the February 5 trade deadline, with the star reportedly ready to play his home games outside of Wisconsin if the right offer came along. Both the player and the team are expected to revisit trade discussions this offseason.
Even as he reaffirmed his loyalty, Antetokounmpo admitted he has long dreamed of playing for other teams.
"Growing up, you dream, ‘Oh, what if I played for the Knicks, Madison Square Garden? What if I get drafted by the Lakers and I'm teammates with Kobe? What if I go play for the Cavs and LeBron passes me the ball?'" he said. He also reflected on how he might fit with recent NBA champions like the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Winning has always been the driving force behind Antetokounmpo's potential moves. The Bucks acquired Jrue Holiday in November 2020 following postseason disappointments, aiming to convince him to stay and sign a supermax contract. Two years later, Milwaukee traded Holiday for Damian Lillard after Antetokounmpo declared he would only sign an extension once the team proved it was committed to winning another championship.
Currently, the Bucks sit 23-30, 12th in the Eastern Conference, far from their glory days. Antetokounmpo compared the desire for another title to craving a second bite of a delicious steak.
"You want that steak again," he said.
Still, the Greek Freak gave Milwaukee fans reason for reassurance.
"This is my team, and I love it," he added.
