ROME – AS Roma secured a vital 1-0 win over Como at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday, keeping their Serie A title hopes alive. Wesley’s second-half strike proved to be the difference in a match that was dominated by few real chances.

Both teams entered the game eager to recover from recent setbacks. Roma, who had slipped from top spot following back-to-back defeats, were looking for a bounce-back performance. Como, on the other hand, were coming off a heavy 4-0 loss to Inter Milan. Despite a largely uneventful first half, Roma held on to claim all three points.

The win keeps Roma in fourth place with 30 points, just three behind league leaders Inter Milan. Como, meanwhile, remain in seventh place with 24 points.

Roma showed attacking intent throughout the game, especially when pressing high to disrupt Como’s attempts to play out from the back. However, their final ball often let them down, as they struggled to break down Como’s defense in the final third.

The first real opportunity of the match came in the 30th minute when Wesley’s cross found Roma striker Evan Ferguson in the box. Under pressure from Como defender Jacob Ramon, Ferguson’s shot was tame and easily collected by goalkeeper Filippo Dini.

Como almost capitalized on a defensive lapse just before halftime. A floated free kick into the box found its way to the feet of Douvikas, but Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar reacted quickly to punch the ball away just in time to prevent any danger.

Roma broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. A well-timed pass from Matias Soule set up Wesley, who hammered a first-time shot into the far bottom corner from a tight angle inside the area.

From that point, Como struggled to create any meaningful chances and never looked likely to find an equalizer. Roma held firm, maintaining their perfect record of not drawing a match this season after 21 games in all competitions.

The victory strengthens Roma’s position in the Serie A title race, as they continue to chase down the top spot with a series of crucial fixtures ahead. -Reporting by Trevor StynesEditing by Christian Radnedge/Reuters
