Everton midfielder James Garner is aiming to take the next step in his international career after earning his first senior call-up to the England squad. The 25-year-old expressed his desire to build on his success with the under-21 team, where he helped secure the 2023 European Championship title.

Garner could make his senior debut in England’s upcoming international friendlies, with matches scheduled against Uruguay on Friday and Japan four days later. Head coach Thomas Tuchel has opted to split his squad into two groups for the fixtures as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Reflecting on his under-21 triumph, Garner described it as one of the most memorable moments of his career and emphasized his ambition to achieve even more at the senior level. He credited his recent form for earning the call-up and remains focused on maintaining his performances to secure a place in the final World Cup squad.

Garner has been in strong form for Everton this season under manager David Moyes. The club currently sits eighth in the Premier League standings, with the midfielder playing a key role in their campaign. He has also demonstrated versatility, featuring regularly as a fullback when needed.

The England call-up marks another milestone in Garner’s development, as he looks to translate his club success onto the international stage and strengthen his case for inclusion in the World Cup squad. -Reporting by Aadi Nair in Bengaluru; Editing by Stephen Coates/Reuters
