Jannik Sinner defeated Czech player Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in a rain-delayed Miami Open final on Sunday, becoming the first man to complete the coveted 'Sunshine Double' without dropping a set.

The Italian world number two dominated the match, winning 92% of his first-serve points and saving all three break points he faced. The victory extended Sinner’s Masters 1000 streak without dropping a set to 17 matches.

“We did a lot of work to be in this position, so I’m really, really happy, and I’m also happy to go back home now,” Sinner said after the match. “Making the Sunshine Double for the first time is incredible. It’s something I would have never thought possible because it’s also difficult to achieve. But somehow, we did it, so I’m very happy.”

Sinner broke early for a 3-1 lead in the opening set and relied on his serve to close it out with a hold at love. Rain interrupted the match again during the first game of the second set, forcing a 90-minute delay. During the break, Sinner stayed loose by playing with a soccer ball alongside members of his team.

Lehecka, ranked world number 22 and appearing in his first Masters 1000 final, resisted five break points over two service games and even led 4-3 in the second set before Sinner regained control. Sinner converted his sixth break point of the set to move ahead 5-4 and sealed the championship on his serve with a forehand volley on his first match point.

By winning both the Indian Wells and Miami titles back-to-back, Sinner becomes the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to achieve the Sunshine Double. He joins an elite list that includes Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andre Agassi, Marcelo Rios, Pete Sampras, Michael Chang, and Jim Courier.
