The conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza will be one of the major topics of discussions among leaders as United States President Donald Trump is set to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in the Swiss ski resort of Davos.

Trump's expected appearance in the Swiss mountain resort highlights the gap between his agenda and the consensus-driven approach of the WEF, which has faced enduring criticism that it is a talking shop of the rich.

Organizers of the annual meeting of the global elite, which opens on Monday (January 19), said they are expecting the largest U.S. delegation ever including secretaries for state, treasury, commerce, trade and energy alongside Trump.

"He's coming here, but he's also bringing five of his key secretaries, Secretary of State, but also Secretary of Treasury, so it's a long list. So there will be a broad American footprint," WEF CEO Borge Brende told Reuters.

The focus for Trump will be to find "a path forward on Gaza, on Ukraine," he said.

Brende said meetings among Trump, European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who he said should be present, could take place.

He added that Trump's presence also highlights the importance of cooperation between the private sector and countries, which have become more and more indebted.

"Public-private partnership and to work together is critically important. I think this has been one of the things that President Trump has underlined as being important by coming to Davos," Brende said.
