Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito presided over the Committee on Tourism hearing on Tuesday to discuss how to promote safe and world-class motorcycle tourism in the Philippines with zero casualties.
“The motorcycle is key to tourism; it should not be the cause of tragedy. We want our motorcycle tourism to be "world class," and the first step towards that is being world class in discipline,” Ejercito said on Monday, February 23, 2026.
“The road is not our personal racetrack, it is a public space. Just because our engine is bigger doesn't mean we have more rights on the road,” he stressed.
Ejercito expressed belief that the partnership between the riding community and the government will become stronger for the promotion of local tourism and road safety. The committee will study the policies and fill the gaps, and ensure that the activities are always grounded in discipline.
“We want a 'Zero Fatality' culture in motorcycle tourism. What we aim for is not just for every rider to reach the finish line, but especially to arrive safely and without any accidents. With proper discipline, motorcycle tourism in our country can go even further,” Ejercito pointed out.
He also pushed for stricter traffic and road safety laws to prevent accidents and community disturbances during motorcycle riding events.
He also called for a stronger partnership between the government and the riding community to ensure that motorcycle tourism continues to drive local economies without compromising safety.
“Ang motorsiklo ay susi sa turismo, hindi dapat ito maging sanhi ng trahedya…We want a zero-fatality culture in motorcycle tourism,” Ejercito said.
