Auditions are now open for Newport World Resorts (NWR) Musicals’ upcoming production, “Bongga Ka, Day!: The Annie Batungbakal Musical.” The company officially opened its casting call on April 22, with the first round of auditions scheduled on May 6 at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City.

NWR Musicals previously presented “Bagets: The Musical,” which ran at the Newport Performing Arts Theater from January 23 to March 22, 2026.

The production is seeking performers of all genders, aged 18 and above, with strong abilities in acting, singing, and movement. Stage experience is an advantage but not required.

The musical is casting lead roles—Annie, Romer, and Burn—as well as supporting, featured, and ensemble roles. For the lead character Annie, applicants should be female,  early 20s looking, possess an alto vocal range with a pop birit singing style, and can dance ballroom or show dancing.

Auditionees for Romer should portray a late-20s, cosmopolitan, attractive and flirtatious character with a strong pop tenor voice and ballroom dance skills. Meanwhile, those auditioning for Burn should look like a mid-20s, grounded folk-rock singer with a baritone to tenor 2 range, guitar skills, and strong movement or dance ability.

Supporting roles include Iste Batungbakal, Annie’s politically aware younger sister with a soprano voice; Toots, her gay best friend with a tenor voice and falsetto; Aurora Pasion, a traditional character appearing to be in her 50s with soprano vocals, operatic training, and ballroom dance ability; and Amor, who should appear around 12 years old and as a young street vendor.

Featured roles include Tarurit and Eartha. The ensemble will portray various characters such as Coco Banana patrons, family members, designers, musicians, and others personalities.

Audition requirements include 16 bars of any song by Filipino band Hotdog, 16 bars of an upbeat song from the ‘70s or ‘80s, and a 16-bar dance piece from the ‘80s.

According to the production’s official synopsis, the musical takes place in 1980s Manila and follows a sales clerk who steps into the glamorous disco scene as she pursues her ambition of becoming a fashion designer, but in doing so risks losing her sense of identity.

The show will run from September to October 2026, with performances every Friday to Sunday, and may be extended depending on demand.
