Rumors have circulated online claiming that actress Christine Li is romantically linked to businessman and former politician Chavit Singson. Li firmly denied that she was the woman with Singson in a video which went viral a few days ago.

She explained that her photo was used in a post with the headline “Chavit Singson proud nang ipakilala ang bagong girlfriend nito.”   

In a four-minute video she posted on social media, Li said the confusion started after a social media post quickly spread online. While she was watching the clip of Singson with the woman inside a restaurant, she said, “That’s not me.” 

Li also denied any personal connection to Singson, 84, saying she has never met him and does not know him personally although she knows his son.  She said she reached out to the son in the hope of clarifying the issue.  Li said Singson's son told her “nadamay ka pa.”

Calling herself a victim of fake news, she urged the public to be more responsible online. “It could hurt someone’s reputation, career, and mental health,” she warned. “Some people are just making up… to earn money from them. Out of innocent people.”

"The Kingdom" actress also expressed frustration over the controversy's impact on her, saying she feels unable to go out freely, “People are gonna start talking behind my back because of what they've seen on the internet.”

She pointed out that the original post was anonymous, making it difficult for her to directly defend herself. “It’s so unfair. Minsan na lang ako mabalita, ganito pa,” she lamented.

Li said she has sought legal advice and consulted her management team on the matter, noting that she is taking steps to address the misinformation.

“Let’s stop this. Let's be responsible and let's fact check,” she concluded.
