Dingdong Dantes, Charo Santos reunite in animated series 'Sun Chaser'

Dingdong Dantes and Charo Santos have  a new project together, lending their voices to the  animated series “Sun Chaser,” a fantasy adventure rooted in Filipino mythology.

Dingdong, 45, and Charo, 70, collaborated in the romantic-drama film “Only We Know.”  Charo shared the news with her followers and expressed her excitement about joining the project by reposting Instagram stories from director Bernard Badion, who highlighted the cast, crew, and production of the animated series.

The series also marks a special collaboration for Dingdong as his daughter, Zia Dantes, 9, joins him in the cast, making her voice acting debut in the series.

Other cast members include Canadian-Filipino actor Manny Jacinto, American comedian Eugene Cordero, Filipino-American comedian JR De Guzman, and Filipino actors AC Bonifacio, KD Estrada, and Liza Soberano ("Forgotten Island").

Created by Filipino-American directors Bernard Badion and Bobby Pontillas (Oscar-nominee for the short film “One Small Step”), the series will be produced by Philippine-based studios Toon City Animation and PlayLab, with Funny Face Films (co-owned by Liza Soberano) also serving as co-producer.

The story follows Jordan Santos (Manny Jacinto’s character), an ordinary teen whose quiet summer in the Philippines turns upside down when a supernatural force disrupts his island. As ancient powers awaken and family secrets are revealed, he is pushed into a mission to protect the balance between the human and spirit worlds.

According to Variety, the animated series will premiere its pilot episode at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France,  from June 21 to 27, 2026.

"Sun Chaser" also brings to the forefront its animation studio, Toon City. Established in 1993 as a Disney TV animation partner, the Mandaluyong City-based Toon City has contributed to the production of major international titles such as “Rick and Morty” and “Kim Possible.”
