Artists gathered in Vienna on Sunday (May 10) for the "Turquoise Carpet" opening of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, emphasizing themes of unity and artistic expression ahead of next week's competition.

Finnish duo Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen, Danish artist Soren Torpegaard Lund, and Australian singer Delta Goodrem were among the performers who spoke about their preparations for the contest. French artist Monroe expressed excitement about connecting with the public next week.

Five national broadcasters including Spanish heavyweight RTVE and Ireland's RTE, are boycotting this year's Eurovision over Israel's conduct of the war in Gaza, launched in retaliation for the October 2023 attacks on Israel by Hamas.

Belgian artist Essyla told reporters at the event: "If you feel that you don't wanna do it, don't do it but just let the rest do their things. And every opinion is okay but just bring peace, bring love and be kind."
