South Korean K-pop group BTS appeared on a balcony of Mexico's National Palace on Wednesday (May 6), greeting thousands of fans gathered in the capital's Zocalo after a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Members RM and V addressed the crowd in Spanish, thanking fans for their support and expressing excitement ahead of the group's concert the following day, while Sheinbaum told the group they had to return next year.

Jacki and Melanie, two fans from Monterrey, said they had come to support BTS and were excited to attend the next day's concert, while fan Abigail Castro Rodriguez said she had been waiting nearly a decade for the moment.

Around 50,000 people attended the gathering, according to authorities, and it ended without incidents. The appearance followed a meeting between BTS and Sheinbaum and turned the central square into a mass fan gathering, with chants and cheers echoing through the plaza.
