American actress and film director Kerry Washington revealed that, as a kid, she learned many of her early dance moves from actress and singer Jennifer Lopez during their time at the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club in the Bronx, New York City.

In the latest episode of the weekly video podcast “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” Washington recalled that she and "On The Floor" singer JLo attended the same dance program as kids.

“We had this dance teacher named Larry,” Washington began, describing him as a dream and an “eccentric” instructor who led the program in the 1980s. When he became seriously ill, JLo—one of the more experienced students—stepped in to teach the younger students.

“If I was eight, she was 16 or something like that. I learned hip-hop and flamenco. I learned to dance from Jennifer.” In jest, Washington said that Lopez, 56, has never cast her in one of her music videos.

She also recalled watching a duet performance Lopez did with their instructor before leaving for Los Angeles to pursue her career.

“It was very risqué.” The younger children, including Washington, were not allowed to see it, but they secretly watched from the wings. “It was beautiful. She was beautiful,” Washington said, adding, “She’s always been a real inspiration for me.”

Before changing the subject, Washington noted that she attended the Spence School and once performed in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” alongside Gwyneth Paltrow.

She added that she has neither worked with Paltrow nor Lopez since those early experiences, joking that she is “available.”
