Beyonce and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter were among the stars who walked the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual gala in New York on Monday (May 4).


The gala is a benefit for the museum's Costume Institute and marks the opening of its annual fashion exhibition. This year's dress code was "Fashion is Art."


Beyonce wore a skeleton-inspired dress by Olivier Rousteing, while Blue Ivy made her Met Gala debut in a white Balenciaga gown.


The invite-only event is known for its celebrity guests and extravagant outfits.
