Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Thursday (May 7) that South Korean K-pop group BTS plans to return to Mexico in 2027, a day after the band made a surprise visit to the National Palace in Mexico City.
During her regular morning press conference, Sheinbaum revealed she personally extended the invitation to the seven-member group during their visit.
Sheinbaum showed a video recorded inside the government palace, in which she asked them directly: "Do you want to come back to Mexico next year?" — to which the band members responded with a unanimous "yes."
The president described herself as "the messenger of a popular demand," adding that the band had discussed it among themselves before agreeing.
"They will come back next year. Of course, they have to look at their schedule; they have to see when. It is good news for everyone who loves this group," she said.
The announcement came a day after BTS visited the National Palace, where the band appeared on one of its balconies to greet an estimated 50,000 fans gathered outside.
