Minions and Monsters
Universal Pictures and Illumination released the first official trailer for Minions & Monsters on February 9. The movie is the latest installment in the Despicable Me franchise, marking its seventh overall entry and third Minions-focused film. The trailer premiered on Super Bowl LX and was released online the following day.
Fans were given an energetic sneak peek at what is shaping up to be one of this year’s most entertaining animated releases.
Minions & Monsters takes the mischievous yellow characters away from their usual adventures. The trailer follows a new trio of Minions whose dreams of making a movie take an unexpected turn. In search of real inspiration, what starts as simple research quickly turns into chaos, as the creatures they discover are far more dangerous and hilarious than they imagined.
Unlike previous Minions films, this installment shifts focus away from the familiar trio of Kevin, Stuart, and Bob. While some fans have expressed disappointment over their absence, others have humorously accepted the change, noting that most of the Minions look alike anyway.
The trailer showcases plenty of visual gags, fast-paced action, and the Minions’ signature chaotic humor as they struggle to control the monsters they hoped to capture.
The film is directed by French voice actor and filmmaker Pierre Coffin, who also returns to voice the Minions whileBrian Lynch co-writes, according to the profile of Internet Movie Database (IMDB). Together, the creative team blends references to early cinema with playful comic takes on classic monster movies, giving the franchise a fresh and entertaining plot.
Adding to the trailer’s impact is the bold musical choice, featuring “How You Like That” by global K-pop group BLACKPINK. The modern track adds a modern vibe to the film’s vintage Hollywood setting and boosts the trailer’s overall energy.
With its official trailer now released, Minions & Monsters appears ready to balance the brand of humor that made the Minions a global phenomenon with new ideas and inventive storytelling. A worldwide theatrical release is set on July 1, 2026.
