After almost thirty years, Romy and Michele are back. Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow will reunite with Scottish actor Alan Cumming for the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic Romy and Michele's High School Reunion.
Cumming, 61, who plays classmate Sandy Frink, recently shared an update on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “This summer, we're going to do the sequel of Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion.” The Traitors actor also recalled and described the experience as funny and crazy.
Earlier, The Hollywood Reporter said the sequel is moving forward at 20th Century Studios, with Kudrow, 62, and Sorvino, 58, expected to return, both also stepping in as executive producers. The studio is considering Los Angeles as a filming location, though plans haven’t been finalized.
The original 1997 film was mostly shot in California, with some scenes in Tucson, Arizona. Memorable spots included the Ambassador Hotel for reunion scenes, Venice Beach for the characters’ apartment, and Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo, per IMDb.
The story follows two 29-year-old best friends who feel stuck in life and decide to make up successful careers to impress their former classmates at their high school reunion.
Sandy Frink, who was once a nerdy classmate, shows up to the reunion in a helicopter as a wealthy, self-made man.
The movie's hilarious dialogue, quotable lines and standout soundtrack, has endeared the film to older fans and even to younger ones as well.
