ABS-CBN’s streaming platform iWant is marking a new milestone with Nurse the Dead, the first bilingual English–Tagalog series produced in the United States.
Currently filming and rehearsing in Los Angeles, Nurse the Dead is not the audience's usual hospital drama.
The series blends workplace life with supernatural dark comedy, following Noa Reyes (played by Jelynn Malone), a nurse supervisor who can see and speak to ghosts.
The series is created, written, and directed by Filipino actor and writer Mark Labella, who said the story was shaped by the real-world experiences of Filipino nurses in the United States, according to entertainment news website Variety.
Labella works closely with directors Wesley Villarica and Drea Castro, who are directing episodes collaboratively throughout the season.
The cast brings together familiar faces from both Philippines and Hollywood. Filipino American actress and host Jelynn Sofia Malone leads the cast alongside Anthony Jennings, who plays a mysterious character named Grim.
Anthony Jennings, 25, is a Filipino actor known for his lead and supporting roles in movies and series like Love at First Stream, Incognito, Can’t Buy Me Love, and the Netflix original Social Climber with Sunshine star Maris Racal, based on his profile on Internet Movie Database (IMDB).
Jennings made his film debut in the 2019 blockbuster romance and drama Hello, Love, Goodbye, in which he played the supporting role of Eric, the youngest brother of Alden Richards’ character.
He became popular because of his comedic personality and strong performances in all the roles he portrayed.

Also joining the cast are veteran Filipino actresses Princess Punzalan and Gigette Reyes, actress and former TV host Ruby Rodriguez, OPM singer Tootsie Guevarra, and American actress and filmmaker Johari Johnson.
Fans have even been getting glimpses behind the scenes. In his recent Instagram update, Jennings re-posted a photo from Malone showing the two of them rehearsing while spending time at Disneyland.
Production is expected to wrap in the coming weeks of February, though the exact release date has not yet been announced.
With its blend of humor, the supernatural, and real-world experience, Nurse the Dead promises a story that feels personal, timely, and distinctly Filipino.
