Jim Parsons unlikely to reprise Sheldon Cooper in 'The Big Bang Theory'

Jim Parsons, who played physicist Sheldon Cooper on the hit sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” for 12 years and who later voiced over its spin-off “Young Sheldon,” said he has no plans of returning to the role.

In a recent appearance on the talk show "The View," Parsons, 53, made it clear a reboot is not something he’s considering.

“I don't believe I would ever do a reboot. I can't say I miss him,”  he admitted.

He said, though, that after many years playing Sheldon, the character felt very personal to him. “There was a lot of me in that,” he explained.

Parsons also delved into why he doesn’t really miss playing Sheldon, partly because the character has stayed with him in some way even after the show ended. Still, he’s often surprised by how strongly fans continue to connect with the series. 

“It makes sense, but I’m not always thinking about it,” he said. He also revealed that hearing how the show helped people through difficult times is especially meaningful, recalling fans who said it helped them get through illness or hurdle challenges.

The conversation briefly touched on "Young Sheldon" and Iain Armitage, 17, who played the young version of Sheldon. He mentioned that Armitage occasionally attends his Broadway shows with his mother.

Parsons is currently appearing in the musical "Titanique," which opened on April 12 and runs until July 12 at the St. James Theatre in New York. The production also features Marla Mindelle and Deborah Cox.
