Thousands welcomed 2026 on Paris’s Champs-Élysées, enjoying fireworks and a dazzling Arc de Triomphe light show while wishing for peace, health, and happiness in the New Year.

People in Paris said they hoped for peace, wealth and health in 2026 as thousands of people gathered on the Champs Elysees to watch a fireworks display welcoming the New Year (January 1).

Tourists and Paris residents gathered along the famous avenue to watch a light show projected onto the Arc de Triomphe before the fireworks display after midnight.

Maria, a visitor from Sweden, said she wished for peace and freedom throughout the world, while Paris residents Pierre-Antoine and Nicolas said health was among their main wishes for 2026 as well as joy and optimism.
