Strike hits southern Lebanon as Israel campaign carries on

Israeli airstrikes hit southern Lebanon amid ongoing clashes with Hezbollah, leaving casualties in Saksakiyeh as the conflict continues despite a U.S.-mediated ceasefire. The escalating cross-border violence has resulted in thousands of deaths and continued rocket fire on both sides.

Israeli strikes hit southern Lebanon on Wednesday (May 6) as the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah drags on.

Lebanese national news agency reported a number of strikes on southern Lebanon, including five dead and fifteen injured in the town of Saksakiyeh.

Hostilities between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah have continued to rage in southern Lebanon despite a U.S.-mediated ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel announced on April 16.

More than 2,700 people have been killed in the war in Lebanon since March 2, according to the Health Ministry.

The Israeli military says Hezbollah has fired hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel since March 2. Israel has announced 17 soldiers have been killed in southern Lebanon, along with two civilians in northern Israel.
