President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was displeased with the alleged mistreatment of Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Bahrain by an employee of the Migrant Workers Office.
This was disclosed by Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro, stating that the President ordered the recall of the employee accused of turning away OFWs who were reportedly seeking assistance amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Castro said the President issued the directive after seeing a viral video showing the alleged improper treatment of the OFWs, immediately instructing Hans Leo Cacdac, secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers, “to investigate and take action regarding the incident.”
The Palace official reiterated that the President’s standing directive is to assist all Filipinos, especially those affected by the current situation in the Middle East.
The Palace spokesperson also called on any official who is unwilling or unable to serve Filipinos with full commitment to step down from their position.
