President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to address Japan’s parliament, the Diet, on May 28 during his upcoming state visit to Japan.
Japanese media reported Wednesday that executives of the steering committee of the House of Councillors, the upper chamber of the Diet, approved the schedule for Marcos’ speech in the afternoon of May 28.
Marcos is scheduled to visit Japan from May 26 to 29 as a state guest, where discussions on security and energy cooperation are expected to top his agenda with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
"I expect that we will be talking about many things, but of course, security cooperation will be a very important part of that discussion,” Marcos said during a roundtable with Japanese media in Malacañang on May 18.
The President said he also plans to discuss Japan’s evolving security and defense posture in the region, including areas for expanded cooperation and assistance between Manila and Tokyo.
Marcos cited Japan’s participation in this year’s Balikatan exercises as a significant step in strengthening interoperability and joint personnel training between the two countries.
