Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday urged the public to stay vigilant following the Senate’s formal convening as an impeachment court for the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Lacson described the opening of the impeachment court on Monday as a “breath of fresh air,” particularly after the turmoil that unfolded in the Senate the previous week, including the shooting incident inside the Senate premises.

"The stark contrast between the smell of gunpowder last week and the breath of fresh air in the Senate yesterday was evident when we convened as an impeachment court after all the parliamentary procedures were strictly followed. May the public vigilance remain unabated," he said in a post on X.

The Senate officially transformed itself into an impeachment court on Monday to hear the case against the Vice President after receiving the Articles of Impeachment transmitted by the House of Representatives.

The Articles of Impeachment were delivered to the Senate on May 13 amid heightened tensions surrounding the reported possibility of Senator Ronald Dela Rosa being arrested.

Over the weekend, Lacson also reflected on the events surrounding the Senate unrest, saying abuses tied to power and impunity eventually reach a limit.

“Arrogance of power, like impunity, has its limits,” Lacson said.
