Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albernaz will be on the field for Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, despite suffering multiple injuries in a freak accident the night before. The 42-year-old manager sustained at least seven fractures in his cheek and a broken jaw after being struck by a foul ball from one of his own players during Monday's game.

The incident took place in the bottom of the fifth inning during the Orioles' thrilling 9-7 victory over the Diamondbacks. Jeremiah Jackson, attempting a check-swing, hit a foul ball that struck Albernaz in the right side of his face as he stood near the dugout railing. The impact was severe enough to cause multiple fractures, but the manager quickly put his hand to his face and walked down the tunnel, where team trainers attended to him.

After passing concussion protocol, Albernaz was advised to watch the remainder of the game from his office. Despite the injury, he remained in high spirits, and several players, including Jackson and starting pitcher Dean Kremer, came by to check on him.

As the game progressed, Albernaz was kept in the loop by his team. When Jackson hit a grand slam in the sixth inning, the manager heard the roar from the crowd and was told by pitcher Chris Bassitt about the dramatic moment. Determined to be part of the action, Albernaz reappeared in the dugout with a noticeable red welt on his face, where he embraced Jackson before returning to his office.

In the seventh inning, Pete Alonso's two-run homer put the Orioles ahead, and Jackson added a solo shot in the eighth to complete a remarkable string of eight consecutive runs for Baltimore.

For the postgame media duties, bench coach Donnie Ecker filled in for Albernaz, but the manager made sure to update reporters before Tuesday's game. Albernaz revealed that he would be eating baby food for the next six weeks due to his injuries.

When asked about his decision to return to the dugout, Albernaz said, "I heard the crowd, and I was like... ‘You know what? F--- this, I’m going out in the dugout.’" Despite the pain, his focus remains on his team and their success.

The Orioles retrieved the grand slam ball, which Jackson signed and gave to Albernaz with a message that read, "Sorry, homie."

Although he could have taken the night off, Albernaz is committed to his role and will be in the dugout on Tuesday. "This is what we're here for," he said. "We're here for the players. We have a game. I'm physically able to be here. So, let's go."

The Orioles look to continue their momentum as they face the Diamondbacks again in Tuesday night's game.
