Edmundo Sosa delivered a go-ahead two-run single in the eighth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies rallied for a 6-3 victory over the visiting Athletics on Wednesday.

Brandon Marsh recorded three hits and an RBI for Philadelphia, which improved to 8-1 under interim manager Don Mattingly. Adolis García also homered for the Phillies, while J.T. Realmuto, García and Sosa each finished with two hits.

Athletics left-hander Jeffrey Springs, returning from hip soreness, allowed two runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out four without issuing a walk in a 75-pitch outing. Nick Kurtz contributed two hits and an RBI, extending his on-base streak to 30 consecutive games.

Philadelphia starter Zack Wheeler, making his third start since returning from a blood clot in his shoulder, gave up three runs and five hits across 6 1/3 innings.

The Athletics led 3-2 entering the eighth before the Phillies mounted their comeback. Kyle Schwarber opened the inning with a walk against Jack Perkins (2-1). Bryce Harper reached on a fielding error by second baseman Jeff McNeil, preventing a potential double play, and García followed with a single to load the bases.

Sosa then grounded a two-run single up the middle to put Philadelphia ahead. The Athletics brought in Hogan Harris for matchup purposes against Marsh, but Marsh added an RBI single. Justin Crawford later drove in another run with a groundout, capping a four-run inning in which the Phillies benefited from two unearned runs.

The Athletics threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs against Brad Keller, but Jacob Wilson grounded back to the pitcher to end the game. Orion Kerkering (1-0) recorded the final out of the eighth to earn the win.

Wilson had earlier driven in a run with a third-inning single, scoring Lawrence Butler, who had walked. Kurtz added an RBI single in the fifth to give Oakland a 2-0 lead before Marsh tripled and scored on a groundout by Felix Reyes to cut the deficit. Tyler Soderstrom then led off the sixth with a solo home run off Wheeler to make it 3-1.

Philadelphia answered in the bottom of the sixth when García hit a solo homer to keep the game within reach before completing the late rally in the eighth.
