GOLF: No close shaves for Cameron Young with Quail Hollow up next
Cameron Young is on fire on the PGA Tour, winning two of his last five events and entering the Truist Championship as a top contender. The World No. 3 credits his strong play to staying focused and embracing the challenges, both on and off the course.

Cameron Young might be the hottest golfer on the PGA Tour, boasting two victories and two other top-five finishes in his last five events.
The World No. 3 is not looking to change much during his hot streak, including whether it’s time to shave his signature beard.
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s coming off. I’m kind of afraid to see what I might look like without it,” said Young, who turns 29 on Thursday. “It’s been a couple years now. In college, we weren’t allowed to have a beard, so as soon as I could, I just did it. Since then, I’ve grown accustomed to the way I look with it. Plus, it’s lower maintenance.”
Young, who attended Wake Forest University, will tee off this week at the Truist Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, located about 90 miles from his alma mater.
“Always nice coming back to North Carolina and especially here,” Young said. “This is a top-notch golf course and tournament. I always look forward to it. The course is quite a challenge, so I really enjoy testing myself here.”
Young has had mixed results at Quail Hollow in previous years. He tied for second in 2022, tied for 59th in 2023, and tied for 34th in 2024 before bouncing back to tie for seventh last year.
After winning last week’s Cadillac Championship by six strokes, Young enters this week as a strong contender. He finished 19-under 269 at Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster Course outside Miami, with former President Trump in attendance.
“Last week was a really good week,” Young said. “A lot of pieces came together. It was a difficult golf course and an atypical week with the President around, but I stayed focused and did my job. I’m very pleased with the outcome.”
Young’s strong year places him just behind No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and No. 2 Rory McIlroy in the world rankings. While his rising profile brings more attention, Young said managing external noise is far easier than maintaining his mental game.
“The noise that’s more difficult to deal with is the noise in your own head,” he said. “Those world rankings are based on the past. That No. 3 next to my name doesn’t give me anything this week or next week. My focus is on staying in the moment.”
