Tyrrell Hatton shot a 1-under-par 70 on Sunday to secure a two-stroke victory at LIV Golf Andalucia in Spain, earning a $4 million winner’s prize and closing out a tense final round at the historic Real Club Valderrama.
Hatton finished at 11-under-par 273 for the tournament, two shots clear of close friend and Legion XIII teammate Jon Rahm. Rahm, who entered Sunday’s final push as a key challenger, posted a 67 to finish runner-up for the second straight year at this event.
The turning point came on the 16th hole, where Hatton’s wedge approach set up a birdie from 18 feet, extending his lead to two strokes over Rahm and three over Spain’s Sergio Garcia.
“Yeah, I found today really stressful,” Hatton said after the round. “I hit a lot of good iron shots that didn’t end up on the green. You saw some pretty angry reactions from me, but I’m happy I just kept plugging away and got my reward at the end.”
Despite the pressure, Hatton said the victory felt especially meaningful. “It feels surreal to win, let alone at a place as iconic as this,” he added.
The win also carried personal significance, as Hatton recently became a father. He reflected on returning home to his family after the victory.
“No matter how today went, I knew I’d be home tonight with a crying newborn and doing nappies,” he said. “I’m really excited to get home to Emily and our little girl.”
In the team competition, Legion XIII closed strongly with a 3-under performance on Sunday to finish at 7-under overall, securing a six-shot victory over 4Aces GC and Torque GC.
Rahm credited the team’s ball-striking as a key advantage on the demanding Valderrama layout. “This type of golf course suits us,” he said. “Ball striking is all of our strengths, and that’s exactly what was required.”
Behind the leaders, Mexico’s Abraham Ancer finished third at 8-under after a final-round 68, narrowly edging Garcia by one shot. Garcia’s 70 included a costly mistake on the 16th hole, where a wayward tee shot and a missed approach led to a bogey that ended his chances of securing an automatic qualification spot for The Open Championship.
Meanwhile, Louis Oosthuizen, captain of Southern Guards GC, withdrew before the final round due to a back injury.
