NBA: Kawhi Leonard, Clippers slip past struggling Bucks

Kawhi Leonard led the Los Angeles Clippers with 28 points as they dominated the Milwaukee Bucks 129-96 at home, shooting 58% overall and setting a career high with 149 made 3-pointers. The Clippers built a 46-point third-quarter lead to secure their second straight win despite missing key players Bennedict Mathurin and John Collins.

Kawhi Leonard scored 28 points as the Los Angeles Clippers returned home with a 129-96 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday in Inglewood, California.


Brook Lopez and Kobe Sanders each added 19 points, while Darius Garland contributed 15 points and six assists for the Clippers (36-36). Los Angeles played without Bennedict Mathurin (toe) for the fourth straight game and was also missing John Collins (ankle). The win marked the Clippers’ second consecutive victory as they began a stretch of seven of their final 11 regular-season games at home.


Lopez shot 5 of 6 from 3-point range, and Leonard finished 3 of 10 from beyond the arc, setting a career high with 149 made 3-pointers. The Clippers shot 58% from the floor and 44.7% (17 of 38) from 3-point range.


Los Angeles built a dominant lead, ahead by as many as 24 points in the first half and extending it to 46 points in the third quarter. The Clippers forced 23 turnovers and limited the Bucks to 44% shooting overall.


For Milwaukee, Gary Trent Jr. scored 20 points, AJ Green had 15, and Ryan Rollins added 13. The Bucks (29-42) have gone 3-11 since February 27 and were without Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) for the fourth consecutive game. Antetokounmpo has appeared in only six games since January 27.


The Clippers opened the second half with a 9-3 run to take an 80-50 lead, then went on a 9-0 surge to extend the advantage to 96-52 with 4:30 remaining in the third quarter after consecutive 3-pointers from Leonard and Lopez. Los Angeles led 108-67 heading into the fourth quarter.


This victory marked only the second time the Clippers have defeated Milwaukee in seven games over the past four seasons. The teams will meet again for the final regular-season matchup in Milwaukee on Sunday.


In the first half, Los Angeles shot 58.5% from the field, taking a 71-47 lead behind 22 points from Leonard and 13 from Garland. Rollins led the Bucks with 11 points in the half, during which Milwaukee committed 14 turnovers.
