NBA: Pistons eager to get past 'bump in the road,' visit Nets
The Detroit Pistons are facing a rare rough patch, trying to halt a season-worst four-game losing streak after blowing a 23-point lead to the Brooklyn Nets. Cade Cunningham returned from rest to score 26, but Detroit continues to struggle without key players like Ausar Thompson.

For the first time in one of their best seasons in two decades, the Detroit Pistons are facing adversity.
The Pistons will look to end a season-worst four-game losing streak Tuesday night when they visit the Brooklyn Nets.
One of Detroit's recent losses came in a 107-105 home defeat to the Nets on Saturday, where the Pistons squandered a 23-point lead. Coach J.B. Bickerstaff said his team "disrespected the game." The loss followed a four-point setback in Cleveland and a 15-point defeat at San Antonio.
Star guard Cade Cunningham sat out Saturday to rest at the front end of a back-to-back. He returned Sunday, scoring 26 points, but Detroit struggled from the start and fell 121-110 to the Miami Heat.
The Pistons are trying to avoid a fifth straight loss for the first time since a six-game skid from April 1-11, 2024, during a 68-loss campaign. Detroit shot just 6 of 22 from the field in the first quarter against Miami, trailing 34-16, and allowed over 120 points for the ninth time this season.
"This is the first time, really, this year we've hit somewhat of a bump in the road," Bickerstaff said. "And it's good for us, right? The adversity is good for us. It's only going to bring us closer together. This group has proven that."
Before this slump, Detroit had lost consecutive games only twice all season. The current skid comes after an 11-win stretch in 13 games, including two victories over the New York Knicks and wins against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Detroit played the back-to-back set without Ausar Thompson, who injured his ankle early in Thursday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs. He is expected to be re-evaluated next week.
The Nets, meanwhile, are on a four-game winning streak, bouncing back from a 10-game losing skid. They beat the Memphis Grizzlies 126-115 on Monday, with Michael Porter Jr. returning from rest and Brooklyn shooting a season-best 51.5% from three-point range (17 of 33).
Day’Ron Sharpe helped spark Saturday’s comeback with nine of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and followed it with a season-high-tying 19 points against Memphis. Ochai Agbaji added a season-best 18 points as part of a 67-point showing from Brooklyn’s reserves.
"We're trying to win every game," Sharpe said. "So it felt great for us to get the last win and to get a win today. Nobody likes losing, so just always trying to win, always bring good energy in the locker room."
Rookies Nolan Traore and Danny Wolf continue to get time in the Nets’ starting lineup. Traore finished with 17 points and four 3-pointers after scoring just two points on Saturday, while Wolf added 14 points, marking his fifth game in seven to reach double figures.
