Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard, who is currently rehabbing from a torn Achilles tendon, will compete in Saturday’s 3-point contest during NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
Lillard, who won the event in 2023 in Salt Lake City and in 2024 in Indianapolis, is sitting out this season after suffering the injury in a playoff game against the Milwaukee Bucks last April.
Only Hall of Famers Larry Bird (1986-88) and Craig Hodges (1990-92) have won the competition three times, putting Lillard in elite company if he claims another title. The 13-year NBA veteran ranks fifth in league history with 2,804 career three-pointers.
Joining Lillard in the eight-man field are Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns, rookie Kon Knueppel of the Charlotte Hornets, Tyrese Maxey of the Philadelphia 76ers, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets, Bobby Portis Jr. of the Milwaukee Bucks, and Norman Powell of the Miami Heat.
Mitchell leads the NBA this season with 180 three-pointers, five more than Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, who will not participate. Knueppel ranks third with 174, Maxey is fourth at 169, and Murray stands ninth with 156. Knueppel could become the first rookie to win the contest.
Portis boasts the best three-point accuracy among the competitors this season, converting 92 of 204 attempts for 45.1%.
