Joey Daccord made 35 saves as the Seattle Kraken defeated the visiting Carolina Hurricanes 2-1 on Monday, snapping the Eastern Conference leaders’ 12-game point streak (10-0-2).
Kaapo Kakko and Ben Meyers scored for Seattle, while Adam Larsson added two assists. Defenseman Jamie Oleksiak set a career high with 11 hits and blocked three shots, helping the Kraken improve to 2-0-0 on their six-game homestand.
Nikolaj Ehlers scored for Carolina, which had its five-game winning streak halted. Frederik Andersen stopped 13 of 15 shots as the Hurricanes began a four-game Western swing.
The first period ended scoreless, with Carolina outshooting Seattle 13-7.
Seattle opened the scoring early in the second period on a 2-on-1 rush. Kakko carried the puck into the offensive zone on the right wing and beat Andersen with a wrist shot from inside the top of the faceoff circle at 3:22.
A potential Kraken goal by Jaden Schwartz at 8:00 was overturned after a video review determined Seattle was offside on the play. The Kraken, however, scored 48 seconds later. Meyers carried the puck up the middle, passed to Frederick Gaudreau, and on the return pass, Meyers’ shot was initially stopped by Andersen. The rebound bounced off the right post and Carolina defenseman Alexander Nikishin before going into the net.
Carolina got on the board late in the second period at 18:30. Jordan Martinook attempted a pass from behind the Seattle net that nearly missed, but the puck ended up with Ehlers, who snapped a wrist shot past Daccord from the high slot.
Seattle was without defenseman Ryan Lindgren, who missed his third straight game due to an upper-body injury.
