The red-hot Dallas Stars look to extend their points streak to 14 games when they host the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.

Dallas has gone 12-0-1 in its last 13 games, tying for the second-longest points streak in franchise history. The 1998-99 Stars — the only squad in team history to win the Stanley Cup — hold the record with a 15-game streak.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Dallas’ current streak is that the team has thrived despite missing key players such as Mikko Rantanen, Roope Hintz, Radek Faksa, and Tyler Seguin due to long-term injuries.

“We’ve had so many different guys contribute ... I just think it’s been by committee,” goalie Jake Oettinger said. “Obviously two of our best players are hurt, and when you can beat really good teams without two of your top guys, it just shows how deep you are.”

Oettinger is 9-0-1 with a 2.55 goals-against average in his last 10 starts and is expected to start against Edmonton.

The Stars have already defeated the Oilers in the first two of their three meetings this season and are 6-1-1 in their last eight regular-season games against Edmonton. However, the Oilers eliminated Dallas in each of the last two Western Conference finals.

Both teams benefited from their most recent wins on Tuesday. Edmonton’s 4-3 victory over the Colorado Avalanche helped the Stars move within five points of Colorado for the Central Division and Western Conference leads. Meanwhile, Dallas’ 2-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights pushed the Oilers into second place in the Pacific Division, tied with Vegas on points but ahead on a tiebreaker.

Tuesday’s win came at a cost for Edmonton, as Colton Dach, Ty Emberson, and Connor Ingram all left the game with injuries. Ingram, who collided with Nathan MacKinnon in the second period, entered concussion protocol. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch said Ingram is “feeling well,” though it remains uncertain if he will be available for Thursday.

With Edmonton facing the St. Louis Blues on Friday, the team now faces uncertainty in goal. Tristan Jarry is expected to start one of the back-to-back games, possibly against Dallas if Ingram needs more evaluation. Calvin Pickard could be called up from the AHL if Ingram is unavailable.

Whoever takes the net for the Oilers will face a tough challenge against Dallas’ potent power play. The Stars have scored on the power play in 10 consecutive games, ranking second in the NHL with a 29.7% conversion rate. Edmonton’s league-leading power play (33.1%) has also been strong, going 11-for-23 in its last eight games.

“I’ve seen a lot of good penalty kills, but our guys usually have an answer for it ... I just have a lot of respect for our power play,” Knoblauch said.

Connor McDavid continues to lead the NHL with 74 assists and 110 points. He has 15 points during his current eight-game points streak, while teammate Evan Bouchard has also tallied 15 points over the same span.

For Dallas, Jason Robertson leads the team with 74 points (34 goals, 40 assists). Wyatt Johnston has matched Robertson with 34 goals, and Rantanen leads the Stars with 49 assists despite missing seven games with a lower-body injury.
