U.S. sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested on Thursday in Orange County, Florida, and charged with dangerous excessive speeding, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The Olympic gold medalist was pulled over by a traffic enforcement officer after traveling at 104 mph (167 kph). Authorities said Richardson was also dangerously tailgating and changing lanes to pass other motorists.
She was charged with dangerous excessive speeding. USA Track & Field did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Richardson, 25, won a silver medal in the women’s 100 meters at the Paris Olympics and was part of the gold medal-winning U.S. team in the 4x100 relay.
Last July, Richardson was arrested in Seattle on a domestic violence charge after allegedly pushing her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, at an airport security checkpoint. She later apologized to Coleman and said she planned to seek help.
In 2021, Richardson tested positive for cannabis, resulting in a suspension under World Anti-Doping Agency rules that caused her to miss the Tokyo Summer Olympics.
