The Senate passed on Wednesday, Senate Resolution No. 35, commending the Philippine delegation for its outstanding performance at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December last year.

The Philippines finished sixth in the official medal standings, bringing home a total of 277 medals, including 50 Gold, 73 Silver, and 154 Bronze, showcasing once again the world-class talent of Filipino athletes.

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri co-sponsored the resolution commending the Philippine delegation.

“We celebrate not only their impressive medal haul...but we also celebrate their fierce determination, their hard work and their commitment to showing the best of the Filipino spirit to the sporting world,” Zubiri said.

Senate Deputy Minority Leader Joel Villanueva noted that the Filipino athletes captivated the world with their record-setting performances and unwavering commitment to excellence.

“In every trial, you chose to persist; in every challenge, you chose to believe in yourselves, in your team, and in the God who gives strength to us all,” Villanueva.

Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go noted that their success is a testament to the unwavering dedication, discipline, and perseverance of the Filipino athletes, coaches, and support staff.

“Each medal they brought home symbolizes not only personal victory but also national pride, inspiring millions of Filipinos—especially our youth—to pursue their dreams through sports,” Go said.

The Senate also approved Senate Resolution No. 286, recognizing the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for their leadership and contributions that enabled the successful participation of the Philippine team in the Games.
