Angel Correa scored a stunning first-half long-range goal to lead Tigres UANL to a 1-0 away victory over Nashville SC on Tuesday in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinal series.
The second leg of the two-match, aggregate-goal series will be played on May 5 in San Nicolas de los Garza, Mexico.
Correa struck in the 33rd minute after collecting the ball just outside Nashville’s penalty area. He deftly lifted it with his right foot to set up space before unleashing a left-footed volley that flew into the bottom left corner of the net.
Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake dove in an attempt to save the shot and managed to get a hand to it, but could not keep it out. Schwake finished the match with six saves.
At the other end, Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman made four saves to preserve the clean sheet. Nashville edged Tigres 13-11 in total shots but could not find an equalizer.
The second semifinal tie begins Wednesday, when Toluca FC visit Los Angeles FC in the other matchup of the final four. -Field Level Media/Reuters
