Paris Saint-Germain will be without right-back Achraf Hakimi for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich next week after he suffered a thigh injury, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
Hakimi went down clutching his right thigh during Tuesday’s thrilling 5-4 first-leg victory. The Morocco international had provided an assist for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s goal, PSG’s fourth of the match, before continuing until the final whistle as the team had already used all its substitutions. The club said he is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
The 27-year-old played a key role in helping PSG secure a narrow one-goal advantage heading into the return leg, which is scheduled for next Wednesday in Munich.
In another setback, goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier has also been ruled out for several weeks after suffering a thigh injury during Wednesday morning’s training session. Chevalier had not featured for PSG since January.
Despite the injuries, the Ligue 1 leaders will continue their domestic schedule, hosting Lorient on Saturday before traveling to Germany for the decisive second leg against Bayern. -Reporting by Chiranjit Ojha in BengaluruEditing by Toby Davis/Reuters
