“How to Train Your Dragon" actor Mason Thames is stepping into the dangerous world of John Wick. The 18-year-old has joined the cast of “Caine,” as reported by Deadline, in the highly anticipated spin-off.
The movie follows Yen's character, Caine the blind assassin, introduced in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” injecting a fresh take on the franchise’s signature blend of high-stakes action and drama.
While Thames’s role remains under wraps, he is among the latest addition to the expanding ensemble for the spin-off.
The film continues Caine’s story after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4. Martial artist and actor Yen directs, stars in, and serves as executive producer of the project, shaping the film through his distinct style of highly detailed action work and character-driven storytelling.
The confirmed ensemble also includes Rina Sawayama reprising Akira, and Dacre Montgomery, who was earlier announced. Production is already underway.
Caine is being written by Mattson Tomlin and Michael McGrale, and is being produced and creatively overseen by John Wick franchise producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, along with Chad Stahelski.
“John Wick” star Keanu Reeves is also on board as a producer although there are no reports confirming if he will appear in the film.
Aside from this project, Thames has remained active across film and television. He recently wrapped filming on “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” the live-action sequel to the hit remake, where he reprises his role as Hiccup. His past work also includes Apple TV+’s “For All Mankind” and the streaming releases “The Black Phone” and “Black Phone 2.”
