Mckenna Grace has been officially cast as Daphne Blake in Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Scooby-Doo.
According to Deadline, Grace, 19, was confirmed to join the iconic Mystery Inc. team in the streaming service’s first live-action series of the franchise.
It was also reported that the comedy horror series is being developed by Midnight Radio, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television.
The actress also took to Instagram to share the news and express her excitement about returning to the iconic show. She wrote, “Oh my jeepers. I can’t believe life is real. I could cry all over again just looking at this announcement. So thankful. SO excited.”
Unlike the previous live-action films, Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004), this adaptation will be in a series-format, giving fans more viewing time to enoy watching Scooby-Doo characters.
Grace has previously voiced a young Daphne Blake in the 2020 animated film “Scoob!” and was announced to reprise the role in “Scoob! Holiday Haunt” before the project was unexpectedly cancelled by Warner Bros.
This new live-action role represents a return to the character in a fresh format, allowing her to further develop her portrayal.
Grace is a rising star with high-profile roles. She earned an Emmy nomination in 2021 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for The Handmaid’s Tale with co-star Alexis Bledel and has appeared in television projects including The Haunting of Hill House and Young Sheldon.
Her film credits include Gifted, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Annabelle Comes Home, and Captain Marvel.
She was most recently seen in the romance drama based on Colleen Hoover's bestselling book of the same name, Regretting You (2025). The actress will also appear alongside Neve Campbell in Scream 7 this February 27 and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping scheduled for November this year.
According to Variety news, the upcoming series is written and showrun by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who will executive produce with André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman are also executive producers under Berlanti Productions, with Warner Bros. Television producing.
No premiere date has been confirmed yet as the other official cast members who will portray Fred, Velma, Shaggy, or Scooby-Doo have yet to be named. The new live-action adaptation is described as a 'modern reimagining' of the classic cartoon series.
